Where Lilacs Still Bloom
Jane's newest work of historical fiction features the life of German immigrant Hulda Klager. With only an 8th grade education Hulda developed an interest in hybridization. Over the course of her long life she developed over 250 varieties of lilacs. Family tragedies and social norms did not make an easy road for Hulda, but she forged ahead and today her homestead is a National Historic Site in Woodland, Washington where visitors can peruse the stunning array of lilacs.
